Do You Need To Fire Your Health Insurance Agent?

Maybe, Maybe not. It all depends on your agent and the service you receive. Make sure you read the section labeled Agent vs. Internet for more information

I'm certainly not trying to increase the unemployment line with that statement but its a cold hard fact that many health insurance agents just don't have a clue what they are talking about.

Insurance companies throw their "great" marketing and sales strategies to their agents and basically tell them to "hit the street and start selling". The big "hitters" (managers) stand at the front of a room and regurgitate the "highlighted" points of a particular product/policy and then send the agents on their merry way. In search of their next "target".

Fast forward to your kitchen table, office or wherever, to find the agent sitting in front of you spewing a bunch of lingo (ppo, hmo, hsa, fsa, cdhp, co-pay etc) that you have no idea about. Sound familiar? Sure it does. The more they have you confused but convinced that you need them, the more pats on the back they get from their managers. Its a twisted and sickening cycle that comes with a price. You and your health care.

Now, don't get me wrong, you do need health care benefits (for those of you that are interested,we'll dive into the specifics later) but don't think for one minute that what an agent tells you is gospel. Get the facts before you even begin exploring your options. Then, once you are truly armed with the do's./dont's, why's/why not's and understand your needs (not the agents) then you can decide if you want to hire or fire your agent.

For those of you that think this is a little negative, I won't apologize. Health insurance can be a nasty business but some of us truly believe in trying to get some of the 44+million of uninsured people....insured! But, not at the cost of ignorance on the consumers part. You're way too smart for that. Right? Well, if you didn't think so before, be rest assured you will be now!

If you are serious about how and where your money goes when it comes to your health and health care benefits you've come to the right place
